Fraud Alert: Malicious phone calls

Fraud alert

Many residents of the Principality of Monaco are currently receiving malicious telephone calls, sent from foreign operator numbers, often appearing as “hidden”, making any attempt at traceability difficult.

This is a malicious telephone call campaign aimed at defrauding potential victims who respond favorably to the caller’s requests. Over the last 48 hours, some 1,500 malicious telephone calls were made on more than 600 Monegasque telephone lines.

Scammers mainly call elderly people, posing as police officers or lawyers, and make them believe that a member of their family has been involved in a serious traffic accident.

They ask to raise a large sum of money (cash, jewelry, etc.) in order to help them.

The people receiving these calls are invited to:

  • DO NOT FOLLOW THE CALL
  • DO NOT RESPOND FAVORABLY TO THE INTERLOCUTOR’S REQUESTS
  • BLOCK PHONE NUMBER
  • DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT PUBLIC SAFETY (+377 93.15.30.15)
