Quickly behind and diminished by the more than severe red card of Fabregas at half an hour of play, the Red and White start the season with a defeat

In a Stade Louis-II well stocked and eager to see the season begin, the meeting started badly for Red and White. On the first corner of the game, the Lyonnais open the score on a powerful head of Dembélé (4′). The Red and Whites do not demoralize themselves and answer each other through Henrichs (19′). After 25 minutes of play, the possession is largely in favor of AS Monaco (60%), which is used to return to the match, like the later Ballo-Toure and Aguilar (for his first appearance in the Monegasque jersey) which redouble the pace on the wings.

The ejection of Fabregas

But the match will definitely switch on a decision of the referee, Ruddy Buquet, half an hour in. Sent deep by Aguilar, Fabregas accidentally walked on the ankle of Dubois in the Lyon area. The OL right wing is on the ground in pain while Fabregas apologizes and that Mr. Buquet consults the VAR after warning the Spanish midfielder in advance. Everyone thinks then that the referee will realize the involuntary nature of the fault, but to the general stupor he decides to release his red card.

Depay surprises Lecomte

With the squad now reduced to ten, the Red and White try to keep their head above water, but a sudden and powerful shot of Memphis Depay in front of the surface surprises Lecomte who is beaten for the second time. While playing for 36 minutes, the game seems bent. After the break, Leonardo Jardim’s men continue to show off a good state of mind by fighting on each ball. Martins is close to reducing the score on the hour mark, but he runs into Lopes in a one-on-one that deserved better.

Tousart in force

The end of the match is approaching, OL now control the game and Tousart took the opportunity to score the third and last goal of his team at the conclusion of a good run from Dembélé and Mendes (79′). His shot in force at ground level leaves no chance to Lecomte who is beaten on his right. 0-3, the final score in favor of OL, who took full advantage of the situation. After a good end of preparation, AS Monaco starts the championship with a disappointment against a solid formation Lyon.

See you in Metz in a week to start again on the occasion of the 2nd match.
