Svalbarði - Discover the TASTE of SNOW in AIR

Our story starts with Jamal Qureshi, who decided to give up his 15 years of experience in international finance and move to Longyearbyen, the northernmost human settlement in the world. His boutique brand Svalbarði Polar Iceberg Water combines business success with a positive impact on the environment and society. Put simply, Svalbarði turns the effects of the environmental challenge of our era into a solution.

Svalbarði is a luxury water brand offering “bottled icebergs”. However it is important to highlight that every 750ml bottle purchased saves 100kg of the melting arctic ice cap.

“The North Pole ice cap is the “air conditioner of the world”. The Arctic is warming twice as fast as the rest of the world. We need to act now to save it.” – highlights Jamal Qureshi, Founder of Svalbarði.

What Was the Life-Changing Inspiration Behind the Brand?

In 2013 Jamal Qureshi went on a trip to 78° north – Svalbard, a Norwegian archipelago high above the Arctic circle which is 60% covered by glaciers. While hiking around the Larsbreen glacier, he decided to collect a bit of meltwater from the glacier to bring home for his wife. She used this small gift from the Arctic to make a cup of herbal tea.

It was that moment that inspired Qureshi to found Svalbarði, a company that offers “the world’s most exclusive bottled water”.

In 2016 Qureshi moved his family from New York to Longyearbyen, Svalbard’s largest town in order to start his unique business.

Svalbarði – Discover the TASTE of SNOW in AIR

The Taste of Fresh Snow

Svalbarði is a luxurious fine water from hand-gathered icebergs in the remote polar region of the Svalbard archipelago, 1000 kilometres from the North Pole. Almost entirely mineral free with the pH of fresh snow which fell before modern era pollution existed.

BuzzFeed recently conducted an independent water taste test with Martin Riese, one of the world’s most well-known certified water sommeliers. The results were that Svalbarði was hailed as the most delicious tasting water they had ever experienced.

How Do They Collect the Water?

A specially chartered vessel, the Ulla Rinman, gathers small iceberg pieces, carefully selecting those that will yield the purest water. Importantly, Svalbarði takes only ice that was already about to melt into the sea within days and would otherwise have contributed to sea level rise.

The ice is then placed in a specially designed gentle melter and bottled by hand in Longyearbyen.

Every 750ml Bottle Purchased Saves 100kg of the Melting Arctic Ice Cap

Svalbarði is Certified Carbon Neutral and goes beyond to carbon negative to help save the North Pole. Each bottle sold supports carbon reducing projects sufficient to prevent 100kg of the North Pole ice cap from melting. These include a project in Uganda which also improves local access to clean water, and a wind farm in China which provides local green jobs.

Svalbarði’s pure water is sourced from a truly exotic place, harvested directly from pieces of Norwegian icebergs that are up to 4000 years old and about to melt into the sea.

“If I go to parties I bring some water. Other people bring $200 bottles of Bordeaux or Burgundy but no one talks about them at the end of the night, they all talk about the 4000 year old [Svalbarði] iceberg water” – says Michael Mascha, Proprietor of

The official distributor of the Svalbarði brand in the Principality of Monaco is MAISON DEL GUSTO.
