New coach of AS Monaco, Thierry Henry arrives in the Principality in a club he knows well. Formed at AS Monaco, the former French international has worn the red and white jersey 142 times. It was the beginning of a golden career.

Originally from Les Ulis, Thierry Henry arrived at the age of 16. Author of a prolific season 1993/1994 with 42 goals, the young striker caught the eye of the coach, Arsene Wenger. Two weeks after joining the professional group, Henry experienced the French league. The young hope starts notably with Lilian Thuram, Emmanuel Petit or Yuri Djorkaeff.

Still learning, Thierry Henry evolves mainly with the reserve team during the 1994/95 season. Promised a professional future, Arsène Wenger summons him eight times and attends his first three achievements. The future top scorer of the France team (51 goals) finally convinced the observers on April 29, 1995. Author of a double against RC Lens for a victory (6-0), Thierry Henry marks the spirits with his first goal. After dribbling Guillaume Warmuz, the center forward shifts to the left side and executes, already, a shot to the far side.

Best French hope

Thierry Henry continues his progression the following season by participating in his first European campaign through the UEFA Cup. He takes part in 18 games and scores three goals. After two years in which the young striker is gaining momentum, the time has come to start at the beginning of the 1996 season. Often aligned with Victor Ikpeba and Sonny Anderson, Thierry Henry continues the good performances. With nine goals in 36 games, he participates fully in obtaining the sixth French title of AS Monaco. Semi-finalist of the UEFA Cup and best hope of the championship, the career of the number 12 Monegasque is launched.

Champion of France at 20, the child of Les Ulis impresses. On October 1, 1997, Thierry Henry became the youngest player in Monaco to score a goal in the Champions League (21 years, one month and fourteen days). He scored twice against Bayer Leverkusen. Beaten since by Kylian Mbappé, scorer in Manchester City on February 21, 2017 at 18, 2 months and one day.

AS Monaco opens the doors of Clairefontaine

Henry finished top scorer in the group stage with six goals and three assists before reaching the semi-finals of the competition against Juve. The good moment continues for the teammate of David Trezeguet who is called into France team a few days after his debut in the Champions League. The center-forward is crowned world champion nine months later alongside two other Monegasques Fabien Barthez and David Trezeguet.

After two years of very high level, Thierry Henry seduces more and more European stables. Juventus of Turin signs him in the winter transfer window of 1999. The experience lasts six months before he finds Arsène Wenger again in London with Arsenal.
