His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco has cancelled a series of engagements due to fatigue, the Prince’s Palace of Monaco announced on Wednesday.

The Prince’s Palace explained that His Serene Highness’s “state of fatigue required a health check whose results do not cause any concern.” As a result of his health check, the Prince has been advised to lighten his workload during the month of July.

Prince Albert is expected at two more events this month – a Herculis meeting on Friday, 20 July and the Red Cross Ball the following Friday the 27th.

His Serene Highness’s last event was on Monday, 9 July in Massachusetts, USA where he visited Woods Hole to meet scientists at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL). At the same time, he announced that his namesake foundation, The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, will provide support to the MBL for the first time for research and MBL’s new project, SeaBase.

After a tour of the Marine Resources Center, the Sovereign Prince of Monaco said in a brief statement to scientists and trustees of the MBL,

“Our oceans are greatly under threat, despite their size and their vital contributions to humanity. This is the central issue of our time, an issue that is urgent and at the same time eternal, an issue for today and for future generations. To move forward at the United Nations, in Monaco, or here on the beautiful New England coast, we have only one resource, and that is knowledge, understanding, and science. Our sole resource is all of you.”
