Laurent Puons, CEO of the 58th Monte-Carlo Television Festival (15th – 19th June), today announced the recipient of its prestigious Crystal Nymph Award and unveiled the names of jury members for the Fiction and News categories of this year’s Golden Nymph Awards. He also revealed an extensive line-up of premiere screenings and exclusive celebrations taking place during the globally renowned event.
At a presentation hosted in Monaco, Laurent Puons confirmed that acclaimed Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning actress Mariska Hargitay will receive the Festival’s Crystal Nymph Award. The Award, which recognizes a stellar body of work by a major international actor or actress, will be presented by H.S.H. Prince Albert II, Honorary President of the Festival, as part of the Opening Ceremony on June 15th.
Laurent Puons also announced the names of the jury members who will select the Golden Nymph Awards in 2018. The Fiction Jury panel, comprising a wealth of the industry’s foremost acting and production talent, will be led by Anne Sweeney, board member of Netflix and winner of the Honorary Golden Nymph in 2012. The panel will include German scriptwriter, director and producer for UFA Fiction, Jörg Winger (Deutschland 83, SOKO Leipzig), actor and producer Jason Isaacs (Star Trek: Discovery, The OA, The Patriot, Harry Potter), Mexican actress Ana de la Reguera (Twin Peaks, Narcos, Goliath), actor, scriptwriter and producer Jimmy Jean-Louis (Heroes, Toussaint Louverture), and French actor Saïd Taghmaoui (Wonder Women, The Missing, Touch, Lost).
The News Jury panel, which will be led by Sky News special correspondent Alex Crawford, includes Ulysse Gosset, international editorialist for BFM TV, and Susan Ormiston, senior correspondent for CBC News. Also joining the panel are José Antonio Guardiola, editor and producer for TVE, Theo Koll, head of ZDF’s Paris office, and director and producer Hyun-Mo Jung.
Following the Opening Ceremony on June 15th, the Festival will play host to the Global Premiere Opening Screening of Amazon Prime Original series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. The series is a reinvention with a modern sensibility of the unexpected Tom Clancy hero played by John Krasinski, who also serves as an Executive Producer. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan also stars Wendell Pierce and is created by Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland who also serve as Co-Showrunners and Executive Producers. Amazon will debut the global series, from Paramount Television and Skydance Television, August 31st on Prime Video.
Laurent Puons also confirmed details of the international television stars set to attend the Festival across its four days. These include Spanish actor Pedro Alonso (La Casa de Papel) and Neal McDonough (DC: Legends of Tomorrow). Justin Prentice (13 Reasons Why), Ioan Gruffudd (Harrow), Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead) and Darren Criss (American Crime Story: Versace) will also represent their series.
The Festival has partnered with a range of studios and distributors to host a line-up of public events. Producer Dick Wolf will invite the Festival’s public to a Behind the Scenes with his stars. The public will also have the opportunity to attend a panel for the French series Une Famille Formidable. The dance troupe D’pendanse, formed by Dancing With The Stars’s professional dancers, will perform a show in Monaco, while the casts of French series Demain nous appartient and Cherif will meet the public during a signing session. Public screenings taking place include Everyone is Doing Great with scriptwriters and lead actors James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti. Shemar Moore and Jay Harrington will also be attending the Festival to represent the series S.W.A.T.
The Festival is renowned for offering the public exclusive events showcasing new series and their talent. For the 58th Festival, the attending public will have the opportunity to meet with the talent of Marvel studios’ latest series Cloak & Dagger and, the talent of The Bold Type, the Amazon series which returns for a second season in June.
The five-day event will culminate with the Golden Nymph Awards Ceremony. This star-studded evening will see Golden Nymphs presented across categories including long fiction programs (television films and mini-series), drama and comedy series, and news documentaries, as well as accolades including the International TV Audience Awards, the Prince Rainier III Special Prize, the AMADE Prize, the SIGNIS Prize, the Prize of the Monaco Red Cross and the Press Prize of the ICRC.
