Monegasque Rudy Rinaldi (born 18 Aug 1993) wrote Olympic history aged 18. At the Youth Olympic Winter Games (YOG) 2012 in Innsbruck (AUT), he and brakeman Jeremy Torre finished third to win the first and still only Olympic Medal for Monaco.

One of the first congratulators then was H.S.H. Prince Albert II, reigning monarch of Monaco and five times Olympian as bobsleigh pilot.

Rinaldi was selected as Monaco’s flag bearer for the opening ceremony of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

As a former bobsledder himself as well, Prince Albert II always had faith in Monaco’s Bobsleigh Team.

“It’s important to follow our young team who has been having interesting results. Rudy Rinaldi is in the midst of becoming an excellent and well-known driver. Boris Vain is an excellent pusher. I think we’ll have some satisfaction in their results and can put our hopes in the team,” said Prince Albert II. back in 2017

He was a technician for the Monaco bobsleigh team at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

“I had a lot of frustrations because I did not participate. My first reaction when I was told I could go as a technician was to refuse, but it was a good experience. Now I know what it [Olympic Winter Games] is.”

Vain was competing in athletics [shot put] when he was contacted by bobsleigh coach Bruno Mingeon, who was scouting sprinters and throwing athletes with the potential to become bobsleigh push athletes. Vain’s friends and teammates advised him to give the sport a try.
